History
The Story of Kansas Post Rock
The Ancient Origin
Kansas Post Rock began in an ancient sea that once stretched across the Kansas plains. Over time, layers of shells and minerals settled and hardened into a dense, fossil-rich limestone.
The Pioneers
Between 1870 and 1930, early settlers arrived on the treeless prairies. With no timber to build with, they searched and discovered this unique layer of limestone. Using only hand drills and wedges, they hand-split the stone into the iconic fence posts and buildings that still stand today.
Today
Our Post Rock products come from the original Kansas Post Rock that was hand-split and set in Russell County over a century ago. They are a remnant of the rock that helped define the Kansas frontier.
